May 20th: For our Opening Day, we will be selling plants from our Daughters gardens! We will also have a few speakers on site to talk about the local plantings, we will be highlighting a few of our gardening artifacts, and we will be planting our Medicinal Garden to honor the Army Surgeons who lived on the site.
June 3rd: We have a marker in our Pollinator Garden honoring Marquette and Joliette and their historic trip on the Fox River. Being the 350th Anniversary, the re-enactors who are making the same journey will be passing though Portage on June 3rd “by their reckoning”. Come and help us welcome them to our historic site.
June 17th: Take a trip back in time and explore the past. Visit FWSQ and see how families lived before there was electricity, modern appliances, and conveniences.
July 15th: Once again, FWSQ will be hosting Ghost Hunting after hours. Come and see who comes out to talk!
July 23rd: For the last three years, we have been restoring our Cabin. Now it’s time to celebrate the completion! From Noon until 3pn, come and join us as we have the Cabin and Schoolhouse open to the public to walk through, see some of the artifacts that we “never put out”, and have some light refreshments as you sit on the cool grass.
July 26th – 30th: Come and visit our table at the Columbia County Fair!
August 19th: Missed the July 15 th Ghost Hunting event? We have another team coming to help us connect with the resident ghosts. After hours and in the dark of course…bring your flashlight and your courage.
September 23rd: Missed both Ghost Hunting events but really want to find out who’s “living” in the Cabin and Schoolhouse? We are going to be doing a Cemetery Walk to the Fort Winnebago Cemetery where you will encounter some of the past residents of the cemetery, then a short walk to the wayside and a conversation with someone who lived at Fort Winnebago, and finally back to FWSQ to meet and talk to a few residents who lived onsite. Come back after dark and we’re going to have Ghost Hunting to see what happens when we ask if we got the information right.
